Новостворений Інститут миру і права опублікував брифінг “Голос Совісті” про дві трагедії, що сталися 9 серпня.
Institute of Peace and Law published a briefing “Voice of Conscience” about two tragedies that happened on 9 August (read the article in English below).
Як сказано у брифінгу, 9 серпня – це день подвійної трагедії.
В цей день у 1943 році нацисти стратили на гільйотині Франца Єгерштеттера, який відмовився воювати у гітлерівській армії. Пізніше католицька церква визнала його блаженним мучеником.
Сьогодні мільйони людей всіляко уникають примусу брати участь у російській агресивній війні проти України та інших війнах, наближаючи закінчення усіх воєн. Є надія, що коли всі люди відмовляться вбивати, війну буде ліквідовано як явище.
В цей день у 1945 році Сполучені Штати скинули атомну бомбу на японське місто Нагасакі і вбили 80 000 цивільних та 150 солдатів.
Як невибіркова атака, це, по суті, було воєнним злочином.
Фізики-ядерники, суспільні і релігійні лідери були проти застосування ядерної зброї. Хібакуся – ті, що вижили, – вимагали заборони атомних бомб.
Сьогодні міжнародне право забороняє поширення ядерної зброї і ставить за мету повне ядерне роззброєння. Україна зробила внесок у цю благородну справу, знищивши успадкований від радянської імперії ядерний арсенал.
Брифінг “Голос Совісті” підготував директор Інституту миру і права Юрій Шеляженко. “Ми прагнемо захищати і підтримувати права людини на мир та на сумлінну відмову від військової служби на основі наукових знань” – сказав він.
На сайті цієї організації зазначено, що “Інститут миру і права” – це приватна неприбуткова наукова установа, місія якої: досліджувати, вивчати, поширювати та практикувати мир як динаміку життя, вільного від насильства, та право як норми, якими ми керуємося у житті.
The tragedies of August 9: the atomic bombing of Nagasaki and the execution of a martyr Franz Jägerstätter who refused to fight in Hitler’s army
A newly established Institute of Peace and Law on 9 August 2025 published a briefing “Voice of Conscience” about two tragedies that happened on the same day in history.
According to the briefing, August 9 is a day of double tragedy.
On this day in 1943, the Nazis executed by guillotine Franz Jägerstätter, who refused to fight in the Hitler’s army. He is venerated as a martyr and has been beatified by the Catholic Church.
Today, millions of people are refusing to participate in the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and other wars, bringing the end to these wars. There is a hope that in the better future everyone will refuse to kill and wars will never happen.
On this day in 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki, killing 80,000 civilians and 150 soldiers.
As an indiscriminate attack, it was essentially a war crime.
Nuclear physicists, civil and religious leaders objected to the use of nuclear weapons. The Hibakusha – survivors – advocated a ban of atomic bombs.
International law prohibits the proliferation of nuclear weapons and aims for complete nuclear disarmament. Ukraine contributed to this noble cause by destroying the nuclear arsenal inherited from the Soviet empire.
The Voice of Conscience briefing was prepared by Yurii Sheliazhenko, director of the Institute of Peace and Law. He said: “We work to protect and promote human rights to peace and to conscientious objection to military service on the basis of scientific knowledge.”
